Dungeons and Dragons Club

This school year, Wilcox's wonderful librarian, Ms. Chella has created an after school Dungeons and Dragons club open to learners and staff of all skill levels to learn and play. The club is already so popular that we have started a waitlist for learners wanting to join.

There are many benefits for your child in playing a collaborative, role playing game such as D&D. These types of games encourage and support:

  • Creativity and storytelling
  • Vocabulary development and active listening
  • Teamwork and problem solving skills
  • Social-emotional skills
  • Basic math skills

Mrs. Anderson and Student STEM Night

Wilcox hosted our annual science fair and family STEM night. Student science projects were judged throughout the day and prizes were awarded and displayed during our STEM night. Learners also got to participate in a STEM activity in their classroom, before enjoying some pizza and getting to take home a STEM at-home activity book.

It was great to see so many Wilcox learners and families participate in our great event!

P.I.E.S. Awards February 2024 Brett Barton 4th Grade Teacher Wilcox Elementary School

The Pocatello/Chubbuck School District 25’s Employee-of-the-Month P.I.E.S. award recognizes employees who Positively Influence Educational Success. The award is for employees who go above and beyond in that effort.

This month we recognized Mr. Brett Barton as February’s PIES Award recipient. Mr. Barton teaches 4th grade at Wilcox Elementary School.

Mr. Barton was nominated for the PIES Employee of the Month award by Wilcox Principal Mrs. Campos.
n her nomination, Mrs. Campos wrote, “Brett Barton is a quiet, compassionate educator. He has been a part of our school district for over 20 years and in that time has experienced many changes in technology, curriculum, programs, innovations, and policies. Through all of that, I have never heard him speak an unkind word or share a negative thought about anyone or anything. Brett is usually the 1st or 2nd person in the building each morning. His classroom is organized and welcoming to all learners and staff. You will always hear soft background music playing throughout the day and the classroom atmosphere is calm and inviting. Learners know they are cared for in his classroom. He willingly collaborates with his colleagues and shares ideas and suggestions in a positive forward forward-thinking way. Mr. Barton has a fabulous sense of humor and engages students in learning through funny voices, animated stories, and focused and targeted instruction. Mr. Barton is well-loved by our entire Wilcox community!”

Mr. Barton was recognized at the Board of Trustees meeting on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, and received a $50 gift card from the educational partner for this award, Lookout Credit Union.

Take Flight You Put the MORE in MORE Together

As the school year winds down, I have reflected a lot on the many accomplishments of our district. We have indeed taken flight this year!

Instructionally, we have learned to adapt in an ever-changing world of technology and yet remain committed to personal learning and interactive experiences. Academically, we strive to meet our learners' needs in our classrooms with engaging, problem solving, critical thinking and collaborative opportunities. Co-curricular and extra-curricular activities continue to flourish with numerous district, state, national and academic championships.

As with any success, these results do not come without the preparation, drive, hard work, passion and dedication of each team member. These values are the foundation of our culture and I am fortunate to be on a team that exhibits these characteristics on a daily basis.

In the past couple of weeks, it has been affirmed to me that our district truly embraces our motto of "More Together." In our efforts to adjust to a devastating fire, I watched, listened and facilitated multiple meetings in which representatives of administration, the Board of Trustees, Maintenance & Operations, Food Service, Transportation, Technology and a BLT came together to brainstorm ideas for solutions that capitalized on each team member's valuable input to maintain the continuity of learning and activities while making efforts to minimize disruptions. It was obvious through this experience that this type of problem solving happens continually throughout our district. Please know how much each of you are appreciated as you take part in daily discussions that have the same goals in mind.

It is with admiration and respect that the Board and your district leadership flight team recognize all of your contributions not only this week, but the entire year. And please, enjoy a fun experience with your gift card.

Superintendent Dr. Douglas Howell
